SWW

At our institute, every handicapped employee has a name, a life history and a perspective. They are the center of attention because of their uniqueness.

About the SWW

SWW stands for Southern Bavarian accommodation and sheltered workshops for blind and visually impaired people. Our institute was founded in May 1992. The persons we work with are blind or visually impaired to a high degree. Most of them are also mentally handicapped or have additional physical handicaps. In other words: even learning how to cope with every-day activities can be very difficult. And this is where our strong support is needed.

On the SWW grounds there are:
  • 60 sheltered workshop places
  • 66 living and nursing home places with special support for work life (severely handicapped people)
  • 40 home places
  • 9 single apartments
  • a central therapy area with a water therapy basin, a gymnasium, possibilities for physical therapy, sound bed etc.

SWW – LOW-VISION

We continually develop our low vision concept, which helps improve every-day life for visually impaired people, for example, by means of stronger lighting and better orientation opportunities.

SWW - Sheltered Workshops WORKSHOPS

In our workshops we produce high-quality products. We have a weaving department, where we produce hand-woven carpets, chair cushions etc. In our ceramics department, we produce a variety of ovenware (ceramics). Another department is occupied with file shredding. As an additional service, we have a group that does sorting and packing work. We adjust the duration and type of work to the individual ability of each handicapped worker.

HOME

Our home with 115 places offers a harmonic life together in groups. The staff also cares for severely handicapped people.

CULTURAL PROJECTS

Projects like the Small Gallery of Senses, the Blackbox, the theatre group and the workshop choir help our inhabitants be creative. The monthly events of our Workshop Culture series of performing arts bring disabled and healthy people together in a relaxed atmosphere.

STAFF

Our institute employs an array of professional staff including social workers, nursing staff as well as educators and professionals for living skills. Psychologists are also available for therapy sessions and for supporting the living conditions of the blind and visually impaired. We also provide additional supervisory support for our employees to aid them in the daily challenges of this work environment.
